For the Fourth of July, my husband grilled ribeye steaks. They came out tender, moist, and flavorful. I am not a steak person, but he really outdid himself. I even had seconds.
Now, our daughter, who is 4 years old tasted the steak and declared how awesome it tasted but after a few attempts decided she was done eating. The Holy Spirit brought attention to the steak on her plate. It was cut up, but the pieces were still to large for her to chew, eat, and enjoy. I offered to cut the steak smaller and see if she was really done or not. She reluctantly agreed and I made the cuts smaller. She ate every bite.
Where am I going with this? The meat of God's Word is for children too. It's not that they can't handle meat and need to remain on milk. They may not be able to chew large pieces the same as adults, but if you give them small pieces at a time they will be able to digest it at their own pace. And yes even babies can eat the meat of His Word. Don't we introduce them to meat around 6 months old at meal time anyway?
Be patient. Open the Bible. Teach your child a piece at a time. You can do this.
