Guard Their Eye and Ear Gates

Writer's picture: Parents as DisciplersParents as Disciplers

As the parent, you have control over what not only goes on your child's plate, but what goes in through their eyes and ears. Guard their eye and ear gates. What are they watching and listening to? Is it planting seeds of righteousness or sin? Change the channel on the TV or the radio dial in the car if you have to. Explain to them why it is important for them to protect what they put in their spirit. 🗣 Speak up when your child is in the presence of others listening or watching something that is inappropriate for them. Your child is watching you. You are training them guard their own ear and eye gates when you are not around. 👂 👁 For example, we do not celebrate Halloween. At home, if a Halloween themed cartoon comes on my 3 year old's iPad she knows immediately to change it to something else. We've told her we don't watch monsters, singing jack-o-lanterns, etc. 📺 Last year, we were in a craft store and a lady asked my daughter if she had a costume for Halloween. She didn't know how to answer so I interjected and told the woman that we don't celebrate Halloween. The lady smiled and changed the subject to coloring books and crayons. 📚 🖍 Don't be intimidated or ashamed of your stance for righteousness. You are responsible for your child's spiritual well-being. When you stand before the Lord what will your report be?
